How to Recycle Mattresses
Innerspring, foam, and hybrid mattresses and box springs.
Quick answer
Yes, about 80–90% of a mattress (steel springs, foam, wood, and fiber) can be recycled, but it needs a specialized mattress recycler, not curbside pickup. Keep it dry and free of bed bugs, then book a mattress-recycling drop-off or a retailer haul-away with your new-mattress delivery. In CA, CT, RI, and OR, the Mattress Recycling Council's Bye Bye Mattress program recycles them free.
