Appliances, mattresses and box springs (whole units only, two free for residents), tires, propane tanks and electronics are handled as special items. The station pays for used motor oil brought in containers of five gallons or smaller. Hazardous waste, explosives and ammunition are refused, and organic loads kept separate from other waste avoid a mixed-load surcharge.

Non-ferrous sellers show photo ID, are photographed and thumbprinted, and sign an ownership statement, as California law requires. The transfer station takes general waste, construction and demolition debris, and recyclables such as clean, dry mattresses, box springs, futons, carpet, and padding. The BOPA Center takes batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze, and sharps, but not business or industrial waste, explosives, radioactive material, or medications. The Buyback Center pays California Redemption Value on containers, one trip per customer per day. Construction loads under 70 percent recyclable count as trash.

Tracy Material Recovery Facility & Solid Waste Transfer

Tracy Material Recovery Facility & Solid Waste Transfer is a public disposal and materials processing facility built in 1995 to help the City of Tracy and San Joaquin County meet the state Integrated Waste Management Act. The plant receives solid waste, recyclables, green waste, wood, and other inert waste, then prepares recyclables for end markets by mechanical and manual sorting. The site runs single-stream recycling, green waste and food waste composting, and wood waste grinding. Public drop-off covers garbage, green waste, clean wood, appliances, e-waste, and mattresses. It hosts the San Joaquin County pesticide container recycling days every other month, and the facility is open Saturdays.

A 75,000-square-foot facility on 7.8 acres on Colt Street in Ventura, Gold Coast Recycling and Transfer Station opened in 1989 as one of only four sites permitted in California that year under AB 939, and it now processes more than 90,000 tons of recyclables annually for Ventura County cities including Fillmore, Ojai, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, and Ventura, plus Carpinteria in Santa Barbara County. It works with Harrison Industries on curbside, roll-off, and construction and demolition programs. Residents and businesses self-haul trash to the transfer station, including out-of-county loads. The buy-back center pays for CRV aluminum cans, plastics 1 through 7, bimetal cans, and glass, and takes non-CRV glass and plastic for free. Newspaper, cardboard, paper, bulk mail, and magazines are accepted but not currently paid for.
