At the Victor transfer station in the Bitterroot Valley, the operator asks you to arrive by 3:30 p.m. so you can unload before the 4 p.m. close, and to wear high-visibility clothing once you step out of your vehicle.

The Bozeman Convenience Site, at 2143 Story Mill Road in Bozeman, is owned by the City of Bozeman and operated by the Gallatin Solid Waste Management District. Opened in 2008, it lets non-commercial district residents drop off regular household materials in small quantities; it is not a transfer site. It accepts household trash ($27/ton, $10 minimum), scrap metal ($27/ton, $10 minimum), compost/clean wood and yard waste ($15/ton, $10 minimum), and household hazardous waste (free, 8am to 2:30pm). Recycling of cardboard, mixed paper, plastic bottles, and cans is free. It does not accept refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, railroad ties, telephone poles, or concrete; deceased animals are not accepted except deer, elk, and moose carcasses from August through February under a state chronic wasting disease program. Payment accepted: cash, credit/debit cards, and charge accounts. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM; closed Sunday and Monday.

The Butte-Silver Bow Landfill sits 5 miles west of Butte off Interstate 90 at 121074 N. Browns Gulch Road, near the Rocker interchange. It accepts all standard residential garbage, recyclables including antifreeze, automotive batteries, cardboard, metals, used motor oil, and yard waste, as well as tires for a per-unit fee. The City of Helena Transfer Station on North Benton Avenue is the city's main solid-waste site, handling residential and commercial garbage disposal along with a full recycling operation. Garbage is charged by weight, while household recycling is free for City of Helena and Scratch Gravel residents who bring it in with their solid waste permit. Cash customers can recycle too, with a $6 minimum charge. Recyclables accepted at the Transfer Station include corrugated cardboard, newspaper and office paper, aluminum and steel cans, mixed glass bottles and jars (clear, brown, and green), and #1 and #2 plastics. Glass and plastic are only taken here at the station rather than at the neighborhood drop-off bins. The station also accepts scrap metal, used motor oil, and tree branches and yard waste, and each spring it runs a latex paint exchange where residents can drop off and pick up usable paint. Flathead County Green Box Site - Kalispell

Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Creston, Lakeside, Olney, Somers, Coram, and Kila are drop-off locations for household garbage and recycling. These sites are open from 8 am to 5 pm, seven days a week, except on major holidays. They do not accept larger household items or commercial waste. The County Landfill in Kalispell is where larger household items can be disposed of, in addition to accepting recycling. The East Corridor site in Essex operates from May to January, with specific hours on certain days. Visitors are reminded that the recycle bins are for household recycling only, and commercial or business use is prohibited. The City of Livingston Solid Waste Division operates a public recycling area at the Transfer Station on Bennett Street where residents drop off sorted recyclables.
