Wixom contracts residential trash, yard waste, and recycling to Priority Waste, and the whole city shares a single collection day: Wednesday. Recycling follows the guidelines of RRRASOC, the regional authority Wixom belongs to along with eight other Oakland County communities. RRRASOC is also the route for household hazardous waste, either at collection events or year-round at a Livonia drop-off that costs residents nothing.
The City of Wixom's solid waste collection day is Wednesday, and items must be at the curb by 7:00 AM. Priority Waste holds the residential contract for trash, yard waste, and recycling, and empties 10 to 35 gallon bins weighing less than 50 pounds.
RRRASOC's list covers plastic containers with lids numbered 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 with no Styrofoam, number 2 bulky plastics such as cat litter buckets and molded kids' furniture, newspaper, magazines and catalogs, junk mail, office paper and phone books, cardboard and boxboard including pizza and shipping boxes, paper drink cartons, paper cups, glass bottles and jars in all colors, and household metals such as empty cans, foil, pans, and small scrap metal. Everything may go in unsorted.

RRRASOC holds collection events for residents of its member communities, which include Wixom, and one is hosted at the Wixom Department of Public Works at 2041 Charms Road. Electronic waste is accepted at all HHW events. To skip the event line, RRRASOC residents can drop household hazardous waste at ERG Environmental Services, 13040 Merriman Road in Livonia, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with no fee. Home pickup is available for $135 per stop plus $0.75 per pound, paid directly to ERG.
