Our annual paper shredding and tire collection day in Livonia will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Works yard on 12973 Farmington Road. Residents can utilize various services to dispose of their refuse, including large item pickup, refuse transfer drop-off site, weekly trash collection, wood waste drop-off site, and yard waste collection. Accepted items for recycling include boxboard, paperboard, glass bottles, cardboard, garden plastics, magazines, newspapers, plastic bottles, scrap metal, aluminum cans, and more. Items not accepted for recycling are batteries, ceramics, electronic waste, fluorescent lights, foam containers, paint, plastic bags, and more. The Drop-off Recycling Center in Livonia accepts larger pieces of cardboard, scrap metal, oil, antifreeze, batteries, and more. Visitors are encouraged to reduce waste by avoiding non-recyclable items, purchasing items with recyclable packaging, and reusing containers and bags. Additional tips include switching to reusable grocery bags, donating reusable items, and saving egg cartons for planting seedlings.
