MSU Recycling operates a public drop-off center at Michigan State University in East Lansing, open to the surrounding community. It accepts a range of household recyclables, and MSU Recycling also runs campus recycling programs, polystyrene recycling, and compost collection. The MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center is a Michigan State University program that diverts university surplus and waste from the landfill, serving the East Lansing campus community. Reusable items, including computers, lab equipment, furniture, vehicles, and clothing, are sold through their surplus store (in-person and online) or made available back to MSU departments. Non-reusable collected materials pass through an on-site Materials Recycling Facility where they are sorted and shipped to regional manufacturers. The program diverted 13 million pounds of material in one year and also operates a public drop-off center.
