About this center
The MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center is a Michigan State University program that diverts university surplus and waste from the landfill, serving the East Lansing campus community. Reusable items, including computers, lab equipment, furniture, vehicles, and clothing, are sold through their surplus store (in-person and online) or made available back to MSU departments. Non-reusable collected materials pass through an on-site Materials Recycling Facility where they are sorted and shipped to regional manufacturers. The program diverted 13 million pounds of material in one year and also operates a public drop-off center.

Not as fun as it used to be sadly. I guess the secret is out and now there is more money to be made by MSU. Only open on Fridays so expect a full parking lot and a long line as opposed to when they were open more often. Also the chairs and desks are much more expensive than they used to be. Used to be able to pick up heavy duty steelcase desks and chairs for like $5 or $10 now the desks are $95. Most adjustable office chairs were $75 and up I couldnt find any of nice office chairs for the old typical prices of $10 or $20. Used to be only the Hermann Miller chairs were so expensive. Now no-name chairs are being sold for $45 and up.

In-store purchases are available Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Curbside pickup of online orders runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with Wednesday extended to 5:45 p.m.
