The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury offers two Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers where residents can dispose of large waste items not suitable for regular trash bins and bring sorted recyclable items at no extra cost. The centers are located at the East and West Public Works Maintenance Facilities in Lake Charles and Sulphur, Louisiana, respectively, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday to Monday, closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and most parish holidays. Residents must present a valid driver's license for verification by on-site attendants, with additional security provided after hours. Guidelines include no commercial or industrial waste, a limit of five tires per person per day, draining fluids from motors and tanks, and removing rims from tires. Specific items not accepted include asbestos siding, medical waste, automotive oils, grease, antifreeze, uncut boats, and certain recyclables like glass, ceramics, light bulbs, and plastic grocery bags. The centers encourage recycling of items like aluminum cans, steel cans, newspapers, cardboard, and batteries, with a request for feedback through a provided survey link for visitors' input.
