St. Landry Solid Waste Disposal District operates a Type II Subtitle D Landfill in St. Landry Parish, accepting general household waste, construction waste, and business waste from residents who must provide proof of residency. The landfill does not accept hazardous waste or industrial byproducts but offers services like wood waste conversion to mulch, white goods recycling, waste tire recycling (up to 5 tires per resident per day), scrap iron recycling, automotive batteries, and waste oil recycling (up to 10 gallons per week per licensed driver). Additionally, there are two Recycling Centers in Opelousas and Eunice that accept items like cardboard, newsprint, shredded paper, aluminum, metal cans, and most plastics, with the option for public donations to school accounts. Medication is not accepted at any of these locations. Residents can also access a Safe Way to Dispose of Medication through a link provided on the website.
