About this center

Walk-in customers and companies drop scrap at the Salem yard on Kanz Court NE. Cherry City Metals buys ferrous metal, non-ferrous metal, stainless and alloys, car parts and frames, and appliances. Sellers pull onto a state-certified scale for a heavy weight, unload by hand or by crane, then return for a light weight. Ferrous loads are paid immediately in cash or by check. Non-ferrous loads, including aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel, wait three days, then a check is mailed, as Oregon law requires. Incorporated businesses and LLCs are paid immediately. Drums and barrels need cleaning and one end removed. Gas cylinders must be split, and aerosol cans must be empty and punctured. Drop boxes run from barrels to 50-yard containers. A crew hauls scrap to the ten-acre plant. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, closed Sunday. The yard also sells steel.

Review

Weighmaster Andy really ripped me off today. I took in close to 100 lbs off cast and sheet aluminum and 60 lbs of copper. Didn't get paid on any of my aluminum. Instead he described it as copper bearing material. So dissapointed .......he should seriously be ashamed of himself for such con-artistrty. I'm coming back only one more time so I can film the whole transaction. Cherry city must make millions just ripping people off. I suggest not going here...........better just take your metal to Portland. They pay way more

Went in as a first timer to this location needing a saddle to cradle a split 55 gallon drum for a raised bed garden. Had one thing in mind and left there with an equally sufficient alternative. This is a metal tradesperson's dream lot! I'll definitely be back....again and again!

Review

If you are dropping off the staff is AMAZING! 5 STARS for them. But the 1 star (and I would leave less if I could) is for the selling staff. Cranky old men. They mean mugged me as soon as I walked in then scattered. I found something I wanted and waited patiently till one of them seemed like he had a minute to help me. I asked about pricing and he said "I don't do the pricing. You have to wait for so-and-so. But if I had to guess I'd guess (insert ludicrous price for the item here)." So I waited. And waited. And the guy who told me he doesn't price stuff went and got an item for another old timer dropped it on the scale and started working up pricing for him. So yeah. Overly rude unattentive and price gouge me any time I'm there.
