Frequently asked questions
What can I put in my single-stream recycling bin?
Accepted items include metal cans and bottles, aluminum foil, plastic bottles and tubs, glass food and beverage jars, cardboard, cartons, newspaper, office paper, pizza boxes, and take-out food containers. All items should be empty, rinsed, and clean. Do not shred, box, bag, or bundle recyclables, and do not include plastic bags.
What is single-stream recycling?
Instead of sorting recyclables into separate bins, customers drop accepted paper, plastic, metal, and glass together into one recycling bin. USA's crew collects it from the curb and the sorting is done at their material recovery facility.
Which common items are not accepted in the recycling bin?
Items not accepted include plastic bags and wrap, Styrofoam, plastic utensils, prescription bottles, loose bottle caps, paint cans, pots and pans, small scrap metal, drinking glasses, ceramics, paper cups, shredded paper, and tissue paper.
What should I do with items that don't belong in my recycling bin, like paint, electronics, or hazardous waste?
USA provides a 'Can I Recycle It?' search tool on its website that helps you find the most convenient local disposal option for items such as paint, mattresses, electronics, clothing, furniture, and household hazardous waste.

Monday was my scheduled day for garbage and recycling pickup. When I realized I forgot to put the bins out Sunday night I called USA to see if the truck was still in the area and if they could possibly pick up the garbage. The lady I spoke with said there would be a $25 fee because they would have to send a different truck out. I declined paying the fee. I then went on their website and sent a message regarding what happened. Shortly thereafter I received a call from them and a nice e-mail from the Customer Service Manager confirming they would pick the garbage up on Tuesday at no charge. Needless to say I was extremely grateful especially because this was my fault. I’ve had USA for a long time and their service has always been top notch. Thank you again for going out of your way to do this for me at no charge. Reminder to self: put garbage out on Sunday night👍
