Republic runs the local recycling center and sends the valley's trash to the Apex Regional Landfill north of town, one of the largest landfills in the country. Because of desert heat, Republic starts collection routes very early (5:30 a.m. from June through roughly September), so carts need to be out the night before or by dawn. Nevada has no bottle or can deposit, so there is no cash refund for returning containers here.
Republic Services of Southern Nevada takes paper, flattened cardboard, aluminum and steel food and beverage cans, and plastic bottles and jugs, all loose in one blue single-stream cart. Republic's Southern Nevada recycling guide also lists glass bottles and jars. Everything should be empty, clean, and dry, and Republic says do not bag your recyclables. Plastic grocery bags, diapers, tissues and paper towels, coffee cups, and food-soiled packaging do not belong in the cart.
It depends which source you read, so it is worth confirming for your address. Republic Services' Southern Nevada recycling guide lists glass bottles and jars (rinsed) as accepted in the blue container. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, however, describes Las Vegas and Henderson curbside as paper, cardboard, metal cans, plastic bottles, and jugs, and does not list glass. If you want to be sure your glass is recycled rather than landfilled, check with Republic Services for your specific route or use a dedicated glass drop-off.
Republic Services runs two free household hazardous waste drop-off sites for residents: a North Valley location at 333 W. Gowan Road in North Las Vegas (enter through Gate B) and a South Valley location at 560 Cape Horn Drive in Henderson. They are open Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on a rotating schedule between the two, closed on holidays. They accept items like paint, motor oil, flammable liquids, pool chemicals, pesticides and fertilizer, and adhesives, with a limit of 40 pounds dry or 15 gallons liquid (gasoline capped at 5 gallons).
Republic Services' Cheyenne Transfer Station and Henderson Transfer Station take household electronics, TVs, microwaves, ovens, and general kitchen appliances at no charge, seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Refrigerators are accepted at the transfer stations and both landfills for a fee. UNLV also runs a drive-up, drop-off recycling location that is open to the community.
Republic Services provides bulk pickup for large items on a set schedule that varies by neighborhood, published as A and B week calendars for Clark County, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson. You can also self-haul bulk items and appliances to the Cheyenne or Henderson transfer stations.
