The Northwest Open Space Recycling Center is located in the parking lot for NWOS playing fields, off of West 112th Avenue and Ranch Drive. It is open to the general public, individuals only, with no commercial companies allowed. The center operates Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed on holidays. The facility accepts various recyclable items such as cardboard, paperboard, office paper, magazines, glass bottles, aluminum and steel cans, plastic household containers, food and beverage cartons, and more. Visitors are advised to clean off any food residue from the items. Not accepted items include plastic bags, shredded paper, Styrofoam, polystyrene materials, yard waste, and more. Glass items have a dedicated bin, and certain guidelines must be followed for specific materials like food and beverage cartons, plastic bottles, jugs, jars, tubs, cups, and containers, aluminum cans, foil, trays, and pie plates, and cardboard and paperboard. The center does not accept items such as plastic toys, garden hoses, vinyl, hangers, light bulbs, ceramics, dishes, and more.
