About This Center

Solid Waste Management Department operates the Sommermeyer Neighborhood Depository Recycling Center in Houston, TX, accepting Junk Waste, Tree Waste, and Recyclables at no extra cost for City of Houston residents. The facility is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm, closed on Mondays, and citizens are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing. Proof of residency is required, such as a Texas Driver's License or ID and a current utility bill or city property tax receipt. Accepted items include furniture, tree waste, appliances, up to five automobile tires per month, recyclables like aluminum, tin, plastics, newspapers, glass, used motor oil, and cardboard. Not accepted are household garbage, more than five tires per month per household, large quantities of building materials, and commercial waste. The depository does not accept trash from commercial haulers or brought in commercial vehicles. Other SWMD Houston-Area Depository and Recycling Locations are available, and visitors are encouraged to follow proper disposal guidelines for various materials.

marllory Cv (5/5 stars, 2 months ago): Went to dump some recycling stuff with no issues at all! and the 2 guys at the door were very polite. Not sure why many bad reviews. Is very important to read and understand the RULES people are so entitled and being rude toward the employees because you don't get it your way is just ridiculous. I'm sure working outside is not an easy task.

A R (5/5 stars, 2 weeks ago): I have used this location many times over the years. I have had zero issues. Bring a utility bill that has your name/address to match with your DL. Pretty simple I though.

Krys Givens (1/5 stars, 2 months ago): Went to drop off a small amount of recycling materials and was turned away because I live in Cypress - not a City of Houston resident. The employee stated COH hasn't allowed Cypress residents since 10 - 15 years ago. However I've recycled here a few other times in within the last 4 - 6 or so years. 😑 The employee acted as if I were ignorant and didn't know what I was talking about and argued that I *must* have recycled somewhere else. 🙄 I can assure it was Sommermeyer as this is the only facility I have *ever* taken recyclables to. The employee gave me the COH number but it's Sunday and I don't see how the city will be of assistance anyhow if the city/facilities aren't willing to provide the service when I drive up. There are no solutions or options for Cypress residents for the items not accepted through curbside recycling.
