The station accepts standard materials including trash, recyclables, food waste, leaves and grass clippings, scrap metal, electronics, textiles, automotive items, corrugated cardboard, plastics, paper products, food and beverage containers, rubber tires, aerosol cans, anti-freeze, lead acid batteries, waste motor oil and filters, and wax containers. Applicable fees apply as outlined in the town's Waste Disposal Guidelines.
What are the hours?
The Transfer Station is open Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and closed Sunday and Monday. During Daylight Saving Time, Wednesday hours extend into the evening (to 7:00 PM from March 11 through September 15, 2026, and to 6:00 PM from September 16 through October 28, 2026). The facility is closed on town holidays. Residents are encouraged to visit on weekdays to expedite their trip.
Do I need a permit to use the Transfer Station?
Yes. A Refuse Disposal Permit is required and may be obtained in person at the Transfer Station, the Bulky Waste Facility, or Town Hall during normal operating hours. The residential food waste collection program also requires a permit.
Where do I dispose of paint or household hazardous waste?
Paint and stain are not accepted at the Transfer Station; residents can drop off oil and latex paint for free year-round (5-gallon limit per visit) at Katz Hardware or Sherwin-Williams in Glastonbury through PaintCare. Other household hazardous waste is accepted at scheduled HHW collection events held periodically throughout the year.

Why are we still required to wear masks? We should be following CDC recommendations. We are outside.
