About this center

Jim and Kristina Bernath run Bernath Recycling at 4045 3rd Ave N in Fargo. The locally owned yard buys scrap metals, batteries, and electronics. Purchase grades include aluminum cans and cast, car wheels, brass, copper, radiators, stainless steel, lead, electric motors, insulated wire, and steel from sheet iron to prepared plate and structural. Complete cars that still hold rims, a battery, a radiator, and the original catalytic converter are graded apart from incomplete cars. Rail scrap requires proof of ownership. Air-conditioning units are accepted only after the freon is removed. The shop does farmstead, office, house, and apartment cleanups, hauls construction debris, decks, and sheds, and places roll-off containers for scrap metal and garbage. Custom crushing covers cars, farm machinery, and sheet iron. The Bernaths also broker metals, electronics, and batteries nationwide.

First rolling up had a truck fly around me as im about to pull in both me and my passenger made comments on how rude it was. Get to scrap yard it's the least organized trashiest scrap yard in I've ever seen. Did not feel safe for my tires backing my truck up. Get inside was informed I couldn't be paid today but these were the best fairest prices in town despite at the end of the transaction they pulled cash out that had been there all along. Employee's started weighting my stuff when the owner with the rude truck walked in counted all my #1 copper as dirty because they were dingy I've been scraping for many years I know #1 from #2 also counted all my brass as zinc giving me 25c a pound Instead of brass at 2.20 and wouldn't give me the time of day. Could tell owner was in bad mood and taking it out on me. At the end of the day given the lowest check I've ever received by far had more issues than any scrap house I've ever been too and despite no scrap house having issues with me yet I got lectured on how I didn't know how to sort scrap or what materials stuff was. I know my brass and copper I'm a plumber selling my scrap from repair jobs. Owner is completely disagreeable avoid this scrap house. Worst experience I've had yet

I've been waiting over 2 hours to get unloaded. Had over 500 pounds of cast iron on board they gave me sheet metal price because they didn't like the way I had it sorted. I will never go back again the guy had kind of a bad attitude besides.

They do not update their prices on the Web site. Classic situation where the older gentleman will treat you right. But the younger guy will squeeze you for every penny.
