Salt Lake City's sustainability program, SLCgreen, offers a range of waste and recycling services to residents. These services include curbside collection of blue recycling cans, brown compost cans, green garbage cans, and grey glass recycling cans. Starting February 3, 2025, there will be changes to the waste recycling collection schedule, with a new map available to determine pickup days. The program provides information on bulk waste collection through the Call 2 Haul service, as well as details on holiday schedules and weather delays affecting garbage, recycling, and compost collection. Additionally, there are resources available for hard-to-recycle materials, seasonal services such as holiday tree collection, and a Master Recycler Program for those interested in becoming recycling leaders. Salt Lake City also mandates recycling or reuse of waste from construction projects and offers specialty recycling programs and drop-off locations for mixed recycling. Municipal drop-off sites and transfer stations usually take flattened boxes free. For large commercial volumes, a recycler may provide a baler or container and sometimes pays for clean bales.
Flatten boxes and remove packing foam and plastic. Normal tape and labels are fine, and a little grease on a pizza box is accepted by most programs. Wet or soaked cardboard is not.
Only in bulk. Baled, clean corrugated cardboard is a commodity, but household quantities are not worth paying for.
