Non-ferrous scrap and California redemption containers are the buyback at Ranch Town Metal Recycling Center on Lincoln Avenue in San Jose. The center has bought scrap since 1996, including aluminum, copper pipe, insulated copper wire such as Cat 5 and Cat 6, stainless steel, brass, radiators, lead, and batteries. CRV plastic bottles, glass bottles, and aluminum cans are accepted when they arrive sorted. No appointment is required. Customers park in front and walk loads inside, and flatbed carts are available. Hours run Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday is closed, along with Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Memorial Day. Residents, schools, and businesses use the center, and businesses also drop off e-waste. Copper wire does not need to be stripped, and a government-issued ID is part of a copper sale.

Many states restrict cash payment for scrap metal, especially copper and catalytic converters, and require a photo ID and a waiting period. Expect a check or electronic payment at some yards. Call ahead to confirm how a yard pays.
Bring a valid government photo ID. Many states also require a vehicle plate number and, for some items, proof of ownership. Separate metals by type before you go, since mixed loads are paid at the lowest grade.
Yards price scrap by the pound or ton, based on commodity markets such as COMEX copper, minus their processing costs. Prices change daily, so call two or three yards before selling a large load.
Get a real cash offer in about 2 minutes. Free towing, any condition, even if it doesn't run. No haggling, no phone calls.
