Key Center Transfer Station
Pierce County offers six transfer stations and drop boxes for residents to dispose of garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Commercial customers are limited to specific stations. All facilities accept residential garbage, yard waste, glass, mixed recycling, paper, cardboard, metal cans, and plastic bottles. Transfer stations are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Visitors are encouraged to explore recycling options before landfill disposal, as many alternatives are available either for free or at a lower cost. Each station has specific operating hours and accepted materials, such as the Anderson Island Drop Box Station accepting garbage, yard waste, and limited recycling, or the Hidden Valley Transfer Station accepting garbage, yard waste, recycling, e-waste, and motor oil. Rates vary based on the station and load type, with different charges for residential and commercial customers. Additionally, the Tacoma Recovery Transfer Center is not part of Pierce County's system and has its own disposal rates.
