Indian Summer Recycling opened in 1990 at 5877 Bethuy Road in Casco Township, Michigan. The owners started the plant because yard clippings were being dumped into Michigan landfills, then signed agreements with communities across Southeast Michigan to divert those clippings to Casco for composting. The Casco facility receives those clippings and composts them. Separate parts of the operation cover the composting process, chemistry, receiving recyclables, and mixes and formulas. The audiences named are municipalities and government agencies, growers and farmers, homeowners, contractors, suppliers, and architects and engineers.
