The Berlin Municipal Transfer Recycling Center, located at 19 Town Farm Lane, Berlin, CT, is exclusively for Berlin residential customers, who must provide proof of residency upon entry. The center offers free disposal of mattresses and box springs, which can be dropped off during normal business hours. Curbside bulky item pick-up is available for a fee of $15 per mattress or box spring, with payment required in advance at the Town Hall. The center accepts a variety of recyclable materials, including clean food and beverage containers made of glass, metal, and plastics, as well as newspapers, magazines, and mixed paper. However, items such as light bulbs, ceramics, scrap metal, and any packaging materials are not accepted. Residents can also recycle rechargeable batteries at designated locations, and curbside recycling is conducted every other week. The City’s Recycling Center, located at 642 Christian Lane, Berlin, offers residents a convenient option for disposing of various items beyond curbside refuse and recycling services. Many items, including mattresses, electronics, and metal waste, can be disposed of at no cost, while general waste such as household trash and construction debris incurs a fee of $160.00 per ton, with minimum transaction fees of $10 for up to 100 lbs and $20 for 101 lbs to 240 lbs. The center is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 2:15 pm, and on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from April to October, as well as every Saturday in November from 7:00 am to 11:45 am.
