New Hartford Landfill

The Regional Refuse Disposal District 1 Transfer Station, located at 31 New Hartford Road, Barkhamsted, CT 06063, serves the towns of Barkhamsted, New Hartford, and Winsted. Residents can choose to hire a private contractor for waste collection or transport their kitchen trash and recyclables to the station for a low sticker price. Stickers are available at the entrance gatehouse during regular hours, 7 AM to 3 PM, and on Wednesday nights from 4 PM to 7 PM, where residents without a sticker can drop off recyclables only. To drop off trash on Wednesday nights, an RRDD1 permit is required. The main level features trash compactors for kitchen waste, single stream recycling, and drop-off areas for electronics, paint, light bulbs, small metal items, and used motor oil. For construction and demolition debris, oversized municipal solid waste, and yard trimmings, vehicles must be weighed in and out at the scale area located up the hill from the gatehouse.
