Since 1985, Detroit Iron & Metal has bought ferrous and non-ferrous scrap at 8300 Dix Avenue in Detroit. The public sells there, and commercial accounts for manufacturers, contractors, plumbers, electricians, and builders are verified first.
Copper, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, lead, zinc, cast iron, sheet iron, structural steel, appliances, insulated copper wire, car rims, batteries, and catalytic converters are purchased. Converters need a title or registration in the seller name. Whole automobiles, frames, kegs, sealed tanks, cemetery scrap, and municipal scrap are refused. A valid ID is required, and sellers under 18 are turned away. State-certified scales weigh mixed loads and straight loads and produce a report for each sale.
Roll-off containers are delivered and picked up. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:45 pm, and Saturday, 8 am to 12:45 pm. Sunday is closed.
