About this center

Calamari Recycling is a third-generation family scrap yard at 20 Town Dump Road in Essex, just off Route 9 between I-95 and I-91. It buys ferrous and non-ferrous metal from homeowners, contractors, manufacturers, aerospace suppliers, and municipalities, weighing every load on certified scales and paying by weight. The buy list covers bare bright, #1, and #2 copper, insulated wire, brass, aluminum siding and rims, stainless steel, lead, cast iron, heavy melt, and appliances, and unprepared steel is sheared on site. The yard opens Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Roll-off and load-lugger containers go out to job sites for construction and demolition debris and manufacturing scrap, and portable shears, cranes, and loaders handle large volumes on the yard or at the customer's site.

After cleaning out a house in Portland there were several old light weight metal cabinets and old pipes and scrap that needed to be tossed. Instead of putting them in a landfill recycling was a great answer. Twenty minutes down Rt 9 very easy process and friendly service. Thanks again!

-Best Scrap Yard I’ve Ever Visited- I’ve been dealing with scrap yards my whole life and usually don’t look forward to it. I heard good things about Calamari’s and brought a big trailer full of mixed metals there recently. I called ahead and spoke with a very kind employee in the office who explained their procedures. When I arrived they weighed me in and again was very kind and pleasant to deal with. I had many different types of metal on my trailer (Lead copper aluminum steel) and they patiently explained where to go and how to get weighed in at various places in the yard. Helpful employees then helped us unload and get weighed in. The guy running the crane was kind enough to unload my trailer with two sweeps of his enormous electro-magnet saving me at least 20 min. of unload time! Overall I was seriously impressed by Calamari’s- The place was organized clean and very user friendly- Their employees where very nice to work with (which generally isn’t the case with typical scrap yards). They run a fair operation- they paid me a very fair sum for my various metals. They also suggested that I would be allowed to purchase any metal from the scrap yard which sounded like a very exciting thought for future DIY projects.
