About this center
Jim Wilkinson Iron & Metal has bought and processed scrap in Brownsville since 1932, with a second yard in Mercedes. The Brownsville site at 3145 E 14th Street runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public. State-certified scales are on site, and a shredder handles industrial scrap, scrap iron, and other metals.
Ferrous and non-ferrous loads include steel, tin, mixed scrap, cars, alternators, starters, air-conditioner compressors, copper, brass, aluminum wheels, aluminum-copper radiators from air conditioners, other aluminum, and cans. Businesses fill roll-off containers; a full box is picked up and swapped for an empty one. The Mercedes yard at 900 Business Highway 83 East keeps the same weekday hours.

I didn't receive the right amount of cash for the items that I took in. When I went in to ask them about my situation they pointed to a sign that reads "count your money..." That's to cover their behind. How come they didn't let me sign the receipt of how much I was receiving before I left to count it then? That's what they should do. Change the policy instead of "miscounting." I even told the guy that I counted the $ and I was $20 short. Rather than help the customer and check the cameras he angrily said I "could have dropped it." I told him that they need to be honest about their business. Ni modo...Can't trust a cash teller nowadays. Hope they're not doing that to all their customers.
