Wesley United Methodist Church Recycling Center
About This Center
Wesley United Methodist Church in Yakima County operates the largest private recycling center in the area, open from Monday to Saturday, with potential early closures on Saturdays if the cardboard bins are full. The center recycles cardboard, paperboard, paper, aluminum cans, and tin cans, emphasizing the removal of paper labels from aluminum pet food cans and craft beverage cans before recycling. They do not accept plastic, glass, Styrofoam, batteries, bulbs, E-waste, or organic matter. Volunteers dedicate over 50 hours weekly to maintain the program, resulting in over 800 thousand pounds recycled annually. Additionally, the church's Green Team, active for over 15 years, meets monthly to plan environmental initiatives, and the church has been on a Solar Journey since 2010, culminating in a 56-panel solar system dedicated on Earth Day in 2016, supported by a Pacific Power Blue Sky Grant.

KarenM A (3/5 stars, 3 years ago): I’m not sure why certain days the area is closed or blocked off as it’s a drop off site. Similar to some parking lots at malls. However I do like the convenience of having this in town and not needing to drive all the way out to the dump. I really do wish that recycling bins are including for a decent price in the Yakima Waste Systems to encourage recycling. I am saddened that there isn’t a place for plastic bottles/milk jugs. Otherwise I really can’t complain much more. I’d keep coming to drop off here.

Daniel Beck (1/5 stars, a year ago): I appreciate that Wesley United Church volunteers offer this service but I am increasingly frustrated that they do not honor their posted hours of operation or post non-holiday closures. There have been several instances when I have arrived to drop off cardboard only to find the facilities closed despite posted hours suggesting otherwise. In addition I was turned away at 11:50 AM on a Saturday. When I commented to the gentleman that it was not yet noon I was told it was “close enough”. Thank you for wasting my time and gas…
