Frequently asked questions
Where can I drop off a cell phone for recycling?
Cell phones can be dropped off in the containers located at the Ferguson Center and at the entrance of the Supe Store on the UA campus.
Who handles batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and used motor oil recycling?
These items are managed by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), not the main recycling office, due to state and federal regulatory requirements.
How do I request cardboard pickup?
Contact the Recycling office directly at 205-348-7502 or reach out to your custodial representative to arrange a cardboard pickup.
What happens to fryer oil from campus dining locations?
Bama Dining collects over 1,000 gallons of used fryer oil monthly from all campus kitchen locations during regular semester months. A local company picks it up and processes it into a reusable product.

Dumpsters are clean ground is clean no nasty spills everything is neatly labeled and organized opposite of other areas where trash is plentiful and spread throughout the area. They're closed during business hours- GREAT keep it that way. It'll help keep it safe and CLEAN. If everybody corrugate their boxes it will help save space and perhaps assist workers.

The layout of the place is a bit chaotic there can be times that most of the dumpsters are full so you don't have space to leave your stuff after you take the time of the day to pass by. The place shuts down in all Holidays and sometimes the place is shut down for unknown reasons. Things that could improve the place would be more dumpsters and better use of the spaces provided.

Not open on Sundays and doesn't accept recycling. Why would you have a recycling center that doesn't have demarcated dumpsters to allow people to drop off the recycling after hours?! It's not even that difficult!
