Elko Landfill
2200 Pinion Rd Elko NV 89801 USA
The City of Elko Landfill is a designated facility for the disposal of non-hazardous solid waste from households, businesses, institutions, and industries in Elko and surrounding areas. Operating in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, the landfill plays a vital role in waste management services. Waste materials, including household waste, food waste, packaging materials, and non-hazardous industrial waste, are compacted in layers using heavy machinery to optimize space and minimize air pockets. Each waste layer is covered with soil, clay, or synthetic materials to create a protective barrier, reducing odors, preventing wildlife attraction, and mitigating erosion. The landfill also features a gas collection system to manage gases like methane and carbon dioxide produced during waste decomposition, with collected methane potentially used as an energy source. Environmental monitoring is stringent, covering groundwater quality, gas emissions, surface water runoff, and other indicators. The landfill operates daily from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with closures on specified holidays. Visitors can establish charge accounts for a minimum monthly fee, and the Landfill Superintendent is Shane Fertig, reachable at 2200 Pinion Road.
