Dennis Carter started Anything With A Plug Recycling in the summer of 2012 after growing up near the factories of Dayton, Ohio and wondering where dead electronics ended up. The warehouse on Division Drive in Raleigh takes free drop-offs, with a green bin on the back side of the property for after-hours items, and runs flat-fee pickups for homes, offices, and events across Wake County and surrounding counties. The list covers flat-panel TVs and monitors up to 4 inches thick, computers, printers, copiers, game consoles, small and large kitchen appliances, cables, stereo gear, cell phones, lawn equipment, and lithium batteries with taped contacts. Plastics, cardboard, glass, paper, and cans are taken too. CRT and projection TVs, mattresses, furniture, lightbulbs, and Styrofoam are refused. Drives are physically disassembled, with serial numbers scanned and a confirmation report issued.

The City of Raleigh composts curbside and park yard waste at 900 N. New Hope Road and sells the finished compost, mulch and dyed mulch. Wake County residents can drop off excess yard waste for a fee, and the center accepts pumpkins and gourds from Oct. 17 through Dec. 12. Commercial loads and pallets are not accepted.

Foss Recycling's Raleigh facility on Garner Road buys ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals from individuals and businesses across Wake County, offering same-day cash payment and competitive rates. Services include junk car pick-up, container service, and corporate scrap programs. Foss is an ISRI member.

Independently owned and recycling vehicles in Raleigh since 1963, Martin's Auto Salvage runs two parts operations from its Poole Road yard. The self-service side stocks acres of late-model foreign and domestic vehicles where customers pull their own parts at posted prices, with no yard entry after 4:00 p.m. Self-service parts carry a 30-day parts replacement warranty, and a credit voucher covers any part with no replacement on hand. The full-service domestic parts department quotes and locates parts for local pickup, non-residential delivery, or nationwide shipping, while a sister import yard handles foreign parts. Martin's also buys used, wrecked, salvage, and junk cars of any year, make, or model for recycling or parts.

Wake County Solid Waste Management runs this household hazardous waste site at 9037 Deponie Drive for county residents only. Business, industrial and institutional waste is refused, and vehicles with company markings, ladders, tool boxes, box trucks or enclosed and dual-axle trailers are turned away. Fire damage closed the building, so collection currently runs as a Saturday event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on site, with proof of Wake County residency shown on arrival. Staff take household and rechargeable batteries, up to six lead-acid vehicle batteries, latex and oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, aerosols, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, and fuel in pourable containers of 5 gallons or less. Antifreeze, motor oil and oil filters go to the county multi-material recycling facilities instead.

Wake County's North Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility on Deponie Drive in Raleigh takes recyclables and bulky household items from county residents and businesses, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appliances accepted include air conditioners, dishwashers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, washers, and water heaters. Scrap metal covers bicycles, grills, sinks, ladders, pipes, rims, frames, and push mowers and other small engines with the oil and gas removed. Electronics means any corded device, from computers, game consoles, and printers to small appliances and televisions. Motor oil and filters are taken too, though not in drums since the oil must pour into the collection tank, along with cooking oil, antifreeze, cell phones, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, flattened cardboard, and wooden pallets in loads up to ten.
