Glass Half Full
211 Treasure St
Glass Half Full began in 2020 when Tulane seniors hand-crushed friends' bottles in a backyard, and it now turns recycled glass into sand and cullet from its base in Chalmette. The sand goes to eroding Louisiana coastline projects and the cullet to new glass products. The company diverts tens of thousands of pounds of glass from landfills every week. Households in Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Bernard parishes, Baton Rouge, the Northshore, Birmingham, Mobile, Bay St. Louis, and Ocean Springs get monthly crate pickup, and businesses and events get glass collection as well. More than 20 free drop-off sites, run with Glassroots, take glass with caps and corks removed and food containers rinsed. Labels stay on, and glass needs no color sorting.
