Alco Iron & Metal San Leandro
2140 Davis St.
Alco Iron & Metal began on a quarter acre in San Leandro in 1953 and is still owned by the same family, which now runs five Northern California yards. The Davis Street yard buys ferrous and non-ferrous scrap: steel, cast iron, car and truck engines, aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, nickel, and lead-acid batteries. Individuals and businesses haul material in. Roll-off containers in 20, 30, 40, and 50 yard sizes and forklift bins go to customer sites for ongoing scrap. Alco also dismantles transformers, handles demolition, and sells and fabricates new metal. The yard refuses catalytic converters, airbags, fluorescent lights, refrigerants, paint cans, and every battery except lead-acid.
