Recycling in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Hot Springs sits inside a national park, and the city runs its own solid waste department rather than leaving recycling to a county district. Two separate city facilities sit within a block of each other on Runyon Street: a staffed Recycling Center that takes electronics, and an unstaffed drop-off lot that is open around the clock. Knowing which one you need saves a second trip, because they do not accept the same things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Hot Springs Recycling Center?

The Recycling Center is at 218 Runyon Street and is open 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. It accepts everything the drop-off center takes, plus electronics.

Is there a 24 hour recycling drop-off in Hot Springs?

Yes. The Recycling Drop-Off Center at the corner of Valley and Runyon streets is accessible 24 hours a day. It does not accept electronics, so those need the staffed Recycling Center during weekday hours.

Can I recycle a TV or computer in Hot Springs?

Yes, at the staffed Recycling Center on Runyon Street. The city lists computers, monitors, televisions, keyboards, VCRs, DVD players, microwaves, and other small electronics as accepted e-waste.

What kind of plastic does Hot Springs accept?

Only grades 1 and 2. That means containers marked with a 1 or a 2 inside the chasing arrow triangle, such as two liter drink bottles, water bottles, milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, and bleach bottles. Crush them to save space.

Does Hot Springs take all cardboard and paper?

Corrugated cardboard only, meaning the kind with a wavy layer between two flat layers. Pasteboard such as cereal or shoe boxes is not accepted. Mixed paper covers newspaper, office paper, file folders, junk mail, magazines, and phone books, and it must be dry, clean, and unbagged.

Which aluminum is accepted in Hot Springs?

Aluminum cans only. Tin cans, foil, siding, and pie pans are excluded. The city suggests a refrigerator magnet test: if the magnet sticks, the item is not aluminum.

Hot Springs Recycling Tips

  • •Remove all lids and rinse containers before dropping anything off, which the city lists as a standing requirement.
  • •Take electronics to the staffed Recycling Center at 218 Runyon Street during weekday hours, not to the 24 hour drop-off lot.
  • •Use the Valley and Runyon drop-off when you are recycling cans, cardboard, glass, paper, or plastics outside business hours.
  • •Recycle glass bottles and jars only. Window glass and mirrors are not accepted at either location.
  • •Crush cans and plastic bottles before dropping them off so the containers hold more.
