About this center
Stamford's municipal transfer station, known as the Scale House, is run by the city's Recycling and Sanitation department at 101 Harbor View Avenue. Residents holding a Stamford Dump Permit dump the first 200 pounds per day free. The permit is issued at the Scale House against a Stamford-registered passenger vehicle registration, or against a utility bill at a Stamford address plus the registration when the vehicle is registered elsewhere. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste are taken Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Commercial vehicles, trailers, and rental trucks use this Scale House rather than the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center on Magee Avenue. Freon appliances and tires carry set fees. Chemicals, hazardous waste, liquids, and oil-based paint are refused.

This place is such a dump. My truck got weighed on the way in I took a huge dump inside and then I got weighed on the way out. I dumped 900 pounds and it cost me 40 bucks. Best diet I’ve ever paid for hands down.

While one may have to wait in line to use this facility it is because it is real easy to use the site and all going there know it. It functions professionally and the staff in the scale house as well as those working the floor are very courteous as well and know how to efficiently move people through the process. I am a resident of Stamford and use this facility when needed with great satisfaction. Thank you to the Stamford Team.
