Frequently asked questions
What are the Scale House / Transfer Station hours?
The Scale House at 101 Harbor View Avenue is open for residential dumping Monday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You must be in line at least 30 minutes before the 2:00 p.m. closing.
How much does it cost to dump?
Stamford residents may bring up to 200 lbs of material per day in a passenger vehicle for free. Above 200 lbs, the charge is $6.75 per additional 100 pounds, or $135 per ton. Items with Freon (refrigerators, A/Cs, dehumidifiers) are $12 each, and tires are $10 each.
Who can use the transfer station and what do I need?
Residential use requires passenger (non-commercial) license plates and a Stamford Dump Permit. To get a permit, bring your Stamford-registered vehicle registration to the Scale House; if your vehicle is not registered in Stamford, also bring a utility bill at your Stamford address. Commercial vehicles, pickups, cars with trailers, rental trucks, and vehicles with commercial plates must dump at the Scale House.
What materials are not accepted?
Chemicals, hazardous waste, liquids, and oil-based paint or thinner are not accepted for disposal and must be taken to a designated hazardous waste collection.

This place is such a dump. My truck got weighed on the way in I took a huge dump inside and then I got weighed on the way out. I dumped 900 pounds and it cost me 40 bucks. Best diet I’ve ever paid for hands down.

While one may have to wait in line to use this facility it is because it is real easy to use the site and all going there know it. It functions professionally and the staff in the scale house as well as those working the floor are very courteous as well and know how to efficiently move people through the process. I am a resident of Stamford and use this facility when needed with great satisfaction. Thank you to the Stamford Team.
