Minnetonka Recycling Info
About This Center
Businesses and residents can drop off household recyclables and organic material at the Minnetonka Hopkins Recycling Drop-off Center located at 11511 Minnetonka Blvd. Accepted items include all recyclables accepted in the city's curbside recycling program, with a specific note to flatten all cardboard. In the designated organics dumpster, only specific items such as food, food-soiled paper products, coffee grounds, hair and nail clippings, houseplants, and certified compostable products are accepted, all of which must be bagged in a BPI certified compostable bag or paper bag. Not accepted items include garbage, brush, yard waste, Styrofoam, construction or demolition materials, furniture, and plastic bags. The drop-off center is under video surveillance, and leaving unaccepted items may result in a $1,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Visitors can find locations that accept plastic bags as well.

Julie Cole (5/5 stars, 2 months ago): I’m posting about the recycling and the brush/leaf drop off. The recycling service is great - open 24 hours and they take all the usual stuff - plastics paper cardboard cans. Be aware that at certain times the dumpsters may be overflowing! For post-Christmas 2024 they brought in extra dumpsters. Thank you! We will often make a trip here when the home recycling won’t hold everything. It would be nice if everyone would break down their boxes. Sometimes people will leave inappropriate things I don’t know like a vacuum wine icing bucket bicycle … that they hope someone else will take? You know there are surveillance cameras right? The brush and leaf drop offs are nice features but check the city website for days & hours. You must show an ID with current address at the gate for this. In the past the attendant has been surly but more recent ones have been very nice. It’s always an interesting experience to actually unload brush. Pull up find a clear spot and start unloading. I’ve seen people haul garbage bags of brush out of the trunk of their Cadillac unloading from the back of a minivan using their boat to haul etc. It’s clearly a much appreciated service. Handy tip for a pickup truck: toss a broom in the bed before any brush. Then you can sweep it out right into the brush pile. Oh and you can get free mulch too. The quality isn’t as good as the stuff you can buy - larger chunks & shreds - but free!
Faceman Writes
Faceman Writes (1/5 stars, a year ago): I’m a new homeowner and was trying to dispose of my leaves for the first time. My friend told me this is where they dispose of theirs so I went to go see if I could do the same. A man stopped me at the gate and asked to see ID and then said I wasn’t allowed to dispose here because my ID was from another city. Fine I fully admit I did not know that was the policy but when I asked if he happened to know the proper location for me to go (because again I’m brand new to this and am just trying to figure it out) I got such heavy sarcasm and rudeness plenty of “I haven’t got the faintest idea just not here!” and “You know this is Minnetonka right?” I’m not basing my review on their policy to gatekeep other city’s residents out because I’m learning that is the way things are with places like this. I’m basing my review on the quality of people who interact with the public. We’re trying to do the right thing here rather than just dumping our waste somewhere random the least you could do is show any amount of respect.
