Environmental Services Department (ESD) in El Paso provides a variety of services to residents, including garbage and curbside recycling collections, landfill operations, air quality monitoring, and vector control. Residents can take their trash, household hazardous waste, and bulky items to one of five Citizen Collection Stations, which also serve as drop-off sites for recyclables and offer tools for landscaping and free household products. The Greater El Paso Landfill does not accept certain materials like industrial waste, PCBs, automotive products, liquid waste, hazardous waste, or asbestos-containing materials. Disabled and senior citizens can apply for special services like Sidedoor Collection or a Senior Disability Discount for landfill use. The Air Quality Program monitors air pollution and compliance with regulations, funded by grants from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the city. The program includes air monitoring operations and enforcement activities. El Paso also maintains city medians, conducts street sweeping, and runs an anti-graffiti program. The Vector Control Program focuses on mosquito control, stagnant water issues, and educational outreach to prevent vector-related diseases. Visitors can request a guest speaker or event participation from the department. No construction or demolition material is accepted at the Citizen Collection Stations or landfill.
