About This Center
East Jordan recycling center offers a dedicated area for composting food and yard waste, located next to the recycling bins behind the EMS building at 107 Bartlett Street. They do not accept brush for composting. The center emphasizes that leaving items outside of the bins is considered littering and could result in a fine of up to $500 and/or jail time. They collect various materials for recycling, with 100% of the collected materials being shipped to mills and end users for reuse in the Midwest, with 90% staying in Michigan. Notable recipients of the recycled materials include Georgia Pacific, Graphic Packaging, West Rock, and more. The center practices single-stream recycling, and a list of acceptable items can be found on their website. Visitors are urged to drop off recycling on weekdays to avoid the busier summer months. Littering or leaving non-recyclable items may result in a fine of up to $500 and/or up to 90 days in jail. It follows the logic of most other US systems and makes it more convenient to get the recycled items out of the back of the car. Kudos!!!
