Anoka County Rice Creek Compost Site
About This Center
Bunker Hills and Rice Creek are two compost sites in Anoka County that accept yard waste, tree waste, and organic food scraps from residents. They also take Emerald Ash Borer-infested tree waste. Visitors are advised to arrive 15 minutes before closing, present proof of residence, and ensure their waste is free of garbage or plastic. Tree waste can be loose or bundled, with bundling encouraged for lower fees. The sites have specific hours of operation depending on the season, and fees are charged based on volume for tree waste. Anoka County residents can get unscreened compost for free, and there are additional materials available for purchase. Commercial businesses have different rates and need to contact the site operator for more information. The sites do not accept certain materials like garbage or recyclables, and state law prohibits putting tree and yard waste in the garbage.

This rice creek site was 32 dollars for a trailer full of tree trimmings and bunker hills site was 16 dollars. Like stated in other posts the way they determine price is incorrect. If one was to break it down to twigs you wouldn’t get charged cause it would be less than the two yards. Kinda like the front end loader will do to them periodically. Residents of Ramsey county get yard waste garbage bins that will get picked up I believe once a month. And have never paid a dime at any of compost site's in Ramsey county. It’s like they want us to find alternative optionsGoing to these compost sites was the first time I was charged anything at a compost. What a joke.

Half my brain tied behind my back (2/5 stars, a year ago): Update $42 to unload a trailer of branches! I found a free drop off site. This is a rip off. Update…This may have been a fluke as there have been reports of overcharging by a former employee. I had options and was able to dump for free elsewhere. I have since brought leaves and grass clippings and had a positive experience.

John W (5/5 stars, 7 years ago): I paid $12. I have been going here for years. Never had a problem or felt price was too high. When I saw charges of $42 in reviews I was apprehensive to go back. Went back today and paid $12 for a medium sized trailer packed with brush. I mentioned the reviews of high prices to the attendant and he said there was a former employee who was grossly overcharging. Either way I have never had a problem in dozens of compost size uses.
