About this center
Four generations of the Alderman family have run this scrap yard in New Haven since Max Alderman started out with one carriage in the old Oak Street section in 1895. Alderman-Dow Iron & Metal buys ferrous and non-ferrous metal by the pound or gross ton on digital scales certified by the State of Connecticut, with every read-out in full view of the customer. The yard sits minutes off Routes 91 and 95 and is open six days a week.
Photo ID is required on every transaction, each purchase is photographed and tied to the ID on file, and cameras record around the clock. Electricians and contractors get scrap pickup programs: the yard supplies shop and job-site bins, swaps in replacement bins, weighs scrap on site, and pays at pickup or leaves a scale ticket with the foreman. Roll-off containers of 30 to 40 yards and load lugger buckets from 6 to 20 yards are also available.

FOR TRUCKERS: Friendly people but loading area is littered with metal. Of course this is a scrap yard but at least clean up the dock area. Found a nail and screw in my tires while getting loaded. Getting loaded 2hrs and counting. Best to avoid this place

Very professional they always pick up our scrap aluminum and steel at my business American Truck Inc always on time very friendly and give best prices I wouldn't use any other scrap dealer... I would like to add a family business for over 100 years serving the community

Not the best place to get prices on cat. Converters do you self the favor and drive to a wallingford scrapyard I went in with an oem cat. Converter and was told 8 dollers for a brand new never installed 1 700 doller oem cat. Converter that I never installed due to the headgasket being blown.. and I mean brand new!!! Still has shine and everything so long story short I drive off go to a wallingford scrapyard and boom 120 bucks I'm leaving with.. this place is a joke and now I know why in my young days my family would straight up complain about this place cause of the way they pay it's ridiculous honestly they must've thought that I didn't know how much platinum is actually worth! Stay educated people!!
