Jim and Kristina Bernath run Bernath Recycling at 4045 3rd Ave N in Fargo. The locally owned yard buys scrap metals, batteries, and electronics. Purchase grades include aluminum cans and cast, car wheels, brass, copper, radiators, stainless steel, lead, electric motors, insulated wire, and steel from sheet iron to prepared plate and structural. Complete cars that still hold rims, a battery, a radiator, and the original catalytic converter are graded apart from incomplete cars. Rail scrap requires proof of ownership. Air-conditioning units are accepted only after the freon is removed. The shop does farmstead, office, house, and apartment cleanups, hauls construction debris, decks, and sheds, and places roll-off containers for scrap metal and garbage. Custom crushing covers cars, farm machinery, and sheet iron. The Bernaths also broker metals, electronics, and batteries nationwide.

West End Hide Fur & Metal Co. has run as a family-owned scrap yard in Jamestown since 1959, led today by Jeff and Mike Oster. The yard buys iron of any type, car bodies, bare and insulated copper, brass, aluminum, stainless, lead, aluminum cans, and lead acid batteries, and refuses tires, electronics, fluorescent lights, mercury items, and any container that is not emptied. The same company sells new steel, aluminum, and stainless stock, from rebar and I-beams to drill stem and sucker rod. Roll-off containers in 15, 20, and 30 cubic yard sizes go out to job sites around Jamestown on a first come, first served basis. Scrap receiving runs 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays, and the yard opens Saturday from 8:00 AM to noon.
