Hi-Tech Resource Recovery is a putrescible waste transfer station on Varick Avenue in Brooklyn, permitted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York City Department of Sanitation. It has received commercial waste since 1988 and holds permits for 214 tons per day of municipal solid waste and 100 tons per day of source separated solid waste. The station takes loads from Business Integrity Commission licensed companies, and BIC registered self-haulers are welcome. The truck scale sits on the Meserole Street side and issues certified weight tickets up to 200,000 pounds. Crews sort metal, cardboard, and rigid plastic out of mixed waste and send those recyclables to sister facility Scholes Street Recycling next door. The rest is baled and shipped to regional waste-to-energy facilities and landfills.
