The Compost Center for Wallingford Residents is located at 157 John Street and is operated by We Care Denali, LLC under a contract with the Town. The center is open from March 15 to November 30, 2025, with specific hours varying by day. Free disposal is available for Wallingford residents for brush (less than 6 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length), leaves (in paper bags with masking tape, no plastic bags), and Christmas trees (cleaned of all ornamentation). Oversized tree limbs and logs incur a fee, and commercial landscapers will be charged for debris disposal. Unacceptable items include plastic bags, lumber (treated, painted, or rotted), grass clippings, soil, and other waste such as garden waste, garbage, metal, concrete, tires, cardboard, rocks, and stumps. Residents are encouraged to use grass clippings as a natural fertilizer by leaving them on the lawn and can also add them to household compost bins, but they are not allowed in trash or at the Compost Center. For more information on residential composting, residents can visit the CT Department of Environmental and Energy Protection.
