Niagara Metals runs its 55-acre main scrap processing site at the Packard Road yard in Niagara Falls, the headquarters of a company serving Western New York since the 1890s. Customers drive onto the scale for a ticket, follow the yard inspector to the drop-off spot, and weigh in again between each material type. Payment comes at the front office, where valid ID is required for every transaction. The yard scraps vehicles that are at least eight model years old and carry a lien-free New York State title. It refuses town and state property such as fire hydrants, manhole covers, rail tracks, and shopping carts, plus precious metals and mercury-type substances. Staff help offload oversized material, and the site works alongside parent company Triple M Metal.

Many states restrict cash payment for scrap metal, especially copper and catalytic converters, and require a photo ID and a waiting period. Expect a check or electronic payment at some yards. Call ahead to confirm how a yard pays.
Bring a valid government photo ID. Many states also require a vehicle plate number and, for some items, proof of ownership. Separate metals by type before you go, since mixed loads are paid at the lowest grade.
Yards price scrap by the pound or ton, based on commodity markets such as COMEX copper, minus their processing costs. Prices change daily, so call two or three yards before selling a large load.
