Resource Renew's self-service Materials Recovery Center on Ridgeview Road in Duluth takes appliances, bulky waste such as furniture, drywall, and carpet, construction and demolition debris, electronics, food waste, household junk, household recyclables, mattresses, scrap metal, and tires. Customers unload their own materials. Some items drop free and others carry a fee, with cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover accepted. The reuse area is open only to customers who bring items to dispose of and closes 30 minutes before the center does. The center is open Wednesday to Saturday, 8 to 4:30.

Many states restrict cash payment for scrap metal, especially copper and catalytic converters, and require a photo ID and a waiting period. Expect a check or electronic payment at some yards. Call ahead to confirm how a yard pays.
Bring a valid government photo ID. Many states also require a vehicle plate number and, for some items, proof of ownership. Separate metals by type before you go, since mixed loads are paid at the lowest grade.
Yards price scrap by the pound or ton, based on commodity markets such as COMEX copper, minus their processing costs. Prices change daily, so call two or three yards before selling a large load.
Get a real cash offer in about 2 minutes. Free towing, any condition, even if it doesn't run. No haggling, no phone calls.
