How to Recycle Toys
Plastic toys, board games, plush, and battery-powered toys. Donation is the main route, and recall checking before you pass one on is a legal duty rather than a courtesy.
Quick answer
Check the recall list first, then donate whatever still works. Toys mix plastics, metal, and electronics, so curbside is a dead end. Hasbro runs a genuine mail-in program with TerraCycle, but it takes Hasbro brands only, needs a box of at least 7 pounds, and rejects batteries. Pull the batteries out and recycle those separately whatever else you do.
- Recyclable
- Not curbside
- 1Check the CPSC recall list before donating or selling, since the rules cover individuals and charities too
- 2Throw out anything broken or missing parts rather than passing it on, especially nursery and infant products
- 3Take the batteries out of electronic toys and recycle them separately
