Tri-CED Community Recycling
About This Center
Tri-CED Community Recycling, located in Union City, California, is the state's largest non-profit recycling operation established in January 1980. Their primary mission is to employ low-income individuals in the recycling industry, share proceeds with non-profit organizations, and promote environmental preservation through recycling activities. Operating 18 residential route trucks daily in Hayward and Union City, they run a certified California Redemption Center open five days a week. Tri-CED also engages in community initiatives such as supporting the Masonic Homes of Union City, Math Science Nucleus, Niles Historical Nursery project, and the Veterans Memorial Park. They are involved in the establishment of the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff's Activities League project. Despite challenges like funding shortages and declining material values leading to the closure of many recycling centers, Tri-CED remains open and emphasizes the importance of recycling. They adhere to a holiday schedule affecting curbside recycling and yard waste pick-up and provide information on SB 1383, a California law targeting landfill emissions. Visitors can access a Recycling Hotline through StopWaste.org for guidance on proper recycling practices and can find recycling locations based on their area. Tri-CED welcomes donations as a 501(c)(3) organization and is committed to continuing their impactful work in the community.

Amazing. Only slight downside is you may have to wait a few in the drive up line when it's busy but what is your time really worth if you're thrifty like me and collect cans in the first place lol

There was such a long drive waiting wrapped around the street. Waited overall 1.5hr. Another 40min wait to cash out. Second star for an interesting experience with drive through. I brought 3 bags and half varied bottle water cans glass etc. I don’t understand how they measure and pay out for each item. I see that they have a charge chart that explains all the pricing. However I think they didn’t count or sort our items properly. In the end we wasted more than 2 hours for only $2 cash back. It’s not worth it. Never coming back again. I’m pretty sure they miscalculated the amount.

I’m from Illinois but my sister is a California resident who does not drive and I did her a favour taking her and an SUV full of bottles the neighbours collect for her but they turned us away. Fortunately we figured out that we can just park in the parking lot and walk up with the same bottles. My sister has autism and is non-verbal and she doesn’t drink pop but she makes several hundred to a thousand dollars a year collecting bottles and from what the neighbours collect for her. I mean why would they think someone would drive 2000 miles from Illinois to cash in bottles in California for the lousy crv rate when we can take them to Michigan for 10 cents a bottle..!
