Every load at Elkins Metal Recycling starts at the office window on 15th Street before the truck rolls onto the scale. Cash covers smaller loads, while commercial customers, catalytic converter sellers, and vehicle sales are paid by check. Steel is graded as prepared #1 HMS or prepared plate and structural, and the entire load must meet one grade to earn the prepared rate. The yard takes lead-acid batteries only and sends back loads that hold other battery types, TVs, tires, fluids, gas cylinders, or freon appliances. Powered scooters, e-bikes, hoverboards, mobility scooters, and ride-on toys have been refused since July 2025, and vehicles are no longer accepted driven onto the lot. Industrial accounts get bin service and pickup, and schools and clubs earn money through donation accounts. Customers arrive from Elkins, Buckhannon, Philippi, Belington, Weston, and Parsons.
