Teets and Sons
738 Black Oak Rd
Richard Teeter started this Tompkins County scrap yard in the 1960s, and his son Richard Jr. reopened it in 2005 as Teets and Son Scrap Metal Recycling. The Newfield yard weighs truck-size loads on a 70-foot scale with digital readouts on the way in and out, and small loads get weighed in the metal shop with cash paid on the spot. The yard buys junk cars and appliances, certifying that all CFCs are removed from each appliance. A pickup crew handles medium-sized jobs with a half-day turnaround, and roll-off containers come in 10 yard (lockable lid or open), 20, 30, and 40 yard sizes. A second yard in Groton, opened in 2012, adds a u-pull parts lot. The public and businesses both sell here.
