J.C. Shoemyer and his wife Hazel opened J.C. Paint and Body Shop in 1960 with one part-time employee, and a 1970 move to a new building with a body shop on one side and a mechanics shop on the other left room for a salvage yard. The Monroe City operation now covers more than thirty acres, and a computerized inventory tied to a nationwide locator network handles nearly any parts request. The company runs three arms under one name: JC Parts City for used auto and truck parts, JC Automotive Repair, and JC Collision Repair. Major truck lines and UPS ship parts nationwide daily, with delivery routes covering the St. Louis area, Columbia, Jefferson City, Kansas City, Springfield, northeast Missouri, southeast Iowa, and west central Illinois. A second yard operates in Viola, Illinois. The Monroe City office is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
