The Wilton Transfer Station is the Town of Wilton's municipal facility for solid waste, bulky waste, recyclables, scrap metal, and electronics, and accepts only material originating from residential properties in Wilton. A vehicle permit sticker is required to use the station, and certain materials require pre-purchased tickets from the Town Clerk. Recyclables (free except tires) include clean metal and glass, plastics #1 through #7, newspaper and magazines, mixed paper, flattened cardboard and paperboard, clothing and shoes, empty aerosol cans, and light bulbs. The station also takes scrap metal such as appliances, mowers, and car bumpers (no gas or freon) at no charge, and accepts electronics including computers, monitors, TVs, printers, and laptops; hazardous waste, propane tanks, paint, and yard or storm debris are not accepted. Wilton is a member of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA).
