Recycling is the process of separating specific reusable materials from garbage streams and diverting them to facilities that will repurpose them for reuse. GFL's recycling operations involve materials such as wood, paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum, and other metals. Accepted materials for recycling collection usually include cleaned plastic bottles and jars #1 to #7, aluminum cans, pie and baking pans, tin cans, steel food containers, corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, and various paper products. Glass recycling is sometimes accepted, but it's essential to check with the local branch for confirmation. Items that can't be recycled include styrofoam, window glass, electronic waste, motor oil containers, plastic bags, ceramics, food waste, and more. Contamination is a significant issue, so it's crucial to be aware of what can and cannot be recycled to ensure proper disposal.
